Blood Clots from Chemo?

My husband developed blood clots in his lungs and legs. He had been off chemo for about 2 1/2 months when the blood clots surfaced. He was hospitalized, put on Eloquis, and had a filter placed to keep blood clots from his legs from circulating. The oncologist said blood clots can be caused by chemo and from the cancer itself. He was a bleed risk due to a radiation induced upper GI bleed that put him in the hospital with severe anemia. We were faced with choosing which situation was worse, the blood clots or the bleeding potential. He was supposed to restart chemo, but was too weak from the anemia and a severe case of sepsis he was still recovering from. The team of doctors on his case believed the bleed risk was the greater problem and he was taken off Eloquis, a very tough decision. He passed away about 2 weeks later from pulmonary embolism. It happened very suddenly though he had been deteriorating very rapidly in the weeks prior. He had started hospice care just 5 days earlier.
I hope that Eloquis works for you, as it should. My husband had developed so many complications that it wasn’t possible. Prayers and hugs for you and all the others battling this terrible disease.

Thank you for your detailed reply. I am so sorry for all that you went through with him. This is a rotten disease.
