What are your experiences with tramadol ?

Posted by Always Hopeful @AlwaysHopeful, Jun 16, 2024

I have been taking tramadol for over 20 years. It was first prescribed for knee pain. This was the era when they did meniscus surgery. I'm sure the medication is not effective for me now, but it continues to be prescribed. Any other thoughts or experiences?

Tramadol shut off my urinary flow, swelling my prostate and resulted in having a catheter for two weeks. I cannot use any type of opioid, now.

Have you tried taking a 1/2 or 1/4 dose of the Xanax? You should be able to take both, but just need less if taken together. My rheumatologist prescribes Tramadol AND antiinflammatories, plus encourages taking Tylenol w them for maximum effectiveness.

I take 50 mg needed but interestingly the best combination I’ve discovered is 750mg of methocarbamal every 4 hr and it’s not an nsaid.

About the only muscle relaxant that is compatible with PreGabalin for me is Metaxalone. Been taking 800mg at bedtime, but seems to have not much positive effect on the muscular/tendon pain issue with my lower back. I don't notice any other issues with it and I don't seem to be any more drowsy during the day.

My Part D plan doesn't cover it so it's OOP for me. Surprisingly the CVS discoun price was cheaper than the Good/Rx price.

I am 71 and have been on Tramadol for 15 years. I started with 50mg twice daily. I am now on 100mg twice daily and all it does is knock the raw edge off. I’m allergic to other meds so I occasionally get injections to help. I think they need to reconsider the class of drug Tramadol is. I’ve never, ever felt loopy on Tramadol. I’m seeing new docs in Neurology to see what can be done to get better pain control.
I also have Occipital Neuralgia and there is not much that can be done with that except occasionally get occipital nerve blocks. My goal is better quality of life and not having to totally give up everything I love to do! I love to hike but have had to stop the more difficult mountainous trails.

I take Tramadol HCI/Acetaminaphen 37.5/325 mg. Yesterday, I had an aweful time trying to control the pain. Today? No problem. I forgot to take my 5:00 p.m. pill until 7:00 p.m. My biggest challenge is to remember to take the pill every 4 or 5 hours if I'm not in pain.

I'm recuperating from an operation for spinal stenosis. I suspect I'm going to be recuperating for the rest of my life!

Don't know if it mattered, but I was taking Tramadol before my spinal stenosis surgery and never needed more than that. Not sure if it helped much.

I hated Tramadol. It only worked if I took Tylenol at the same time but if I missed a dose the withdrawal was AWFUL I finally was able to discontinue Tramadol but I still need Pain meds but I don’t get the bad side effects from them.

I have the same problem, it doesn’t go away. Sometimes I use an infrared heating pad for relief. Not the old fashioned heating pad but one with jade that holds the heat. It really helps

Where do you find such a pad and does it interfer with a pacemaker?

I was taking 2 Tramadol and 2 Gabapentin four times a day before my spinal stenosis operation. I went through "hell" trying to get off of it. I've given up and I am taking the Tramadol combination. When it works, I have a problem remembering to take it. Then it takes some time to get back on track.
