What type of aching can anastrozole cause?

Posted by marshgirl24 @marshgirl24, 1 day ago

I've had a strange week with aching and swelling in my left leg. Does anastrozole cause this? Really weird. I cannot account for it so I don't think this is an orthopedic problem. I couldn't get my ring on for three days. I used a heating pad and some icing. Rode my bike for an hour the next day and drank coffee hoping to lose the swelling (I don't usually drink caffeine.). After a couple of days it resolved. I mean, it was hard to walk. Tomorrow I'll see my cardiologist. ??? Any thoughts? Thank you. I read that this drug can cause aches but this was more than that and involved swelling in one leg.

You probably need to call your oncologist. That sounds scary! Swelling may be lymphedema?
Anastrozole did not agree with me and my body, and I had to go off. I did have aches while on it- but no swelling.

Anastrozole and all the blockers cause heart damage, high cholesterol, horrible muscle and joint pain and swelling, signifiant hair loss, non stop diarrhea, insomnia, loss of memory and ability to focus, persistent hot flashes. I had no life. I took it for 1.5 years and quit when I realized half my hair was gone. It took 4 months for all symptoms to stop, except I’ll be bald in an another year. I’m very angry that this information is conveniently left out of the side effects leaflet.

Ye gods! I want to stop the Letrezole immediately. I already have osteoporosis and at risk for blood clots. I thought the aches and pains were due to my age, 79. But going bald is adding insult to injury. Also the insomnia is awful.

I'm posting a comment as a followup. Most of the swelling went away. I went to my cardiologist and I had no clots. He suggested that I tweaked something in my knee and didn't realize it. My knees do feel different now. I don't recall ever having to be this careful going up and down the stairs. However, it's not as bad as that day when I really had trouble walking and was so swollen. Phew.

I am sorry for your history with this. I too am having some problems with Anastrozole and feel that information is not fully and frankly communicated at treatment commencement . This seems an area crying out for more research to be conducted , as the effects seems to be so variable and wide ranging in severity for many people. Definitely more quality of life assessment needs to be undertaken as part of risk / benefit analysis.
