Functional Nausea
Hi I’m not sure if anyone suffers from Functional Nausea. Recently, I had an appt with a gastroenterologist. Her diagnosis is Functional Nausea. I’ve been scoped in the past. I’ve been battling this disorder for a few years. I battle it everyday with a loss of appetite plus heat in my esophagus. Even though, I’m nauseated, I am hungry at the same time. I’ve been on antidepressants in the past. Really, not taking too many meds. I’m on a ppi, blood pressure meds, amitriptyline and lorazepam. No anti nausea meds help, nor ginger and peppermint. I’ve been on bland foods also. I see a therapist. I’ve researched vagus nerve devices might help. My therapist wanted me to discuss this with my pcp. These devices are very expensive. Not sure if Medicare would pay for it. I’ve been working with my therapist to manage my stress, depression and anxiety. Has anyone dealt with Functional Nausea? Has anyone used a vagus nerve device for nausea? If so, did it help? Thank you for any suggestions and info regarding this.
Flo

Hopefully regulate Medicare will not be impacted by the current cast of characters in D.C.
I meant GOD bless you!! (too late to edit..)
Thank you so much. You are a very caring person. May I ask, what did they do regarding your vagus nerve? I’m so tired of suffering. Putting a strain on my family.
I forgot to mention I’ve tried Zofran 8 mg dissolving tabs. They don’t work for me. Then there’s the constipation side effect. The only stomach meds I take is generic Nexium. It doesn’t help. I mentioned earlier I have heat in my esophagus. Thank you so much for reading my messages.
You are so kind.. I can tell you are a really special lady!! They said my vagus nerve wasn't involved..they think it is due to pyloric stenosis..whi is located where my stomach empties into my small intestine..and they "balloon it open with an EDG every 6 months or so.. everytime they do I end up with colitis.. this time it was colitis and ecoli..(I think from a restaurant I ate at)..it was quite by accident they found the ecoli.. luckily the GI ordered stool tests..one thing the GI did to stop my nausea was a scopolamine patch (behind your ear) I had used these on my husband when he was on hospice in our living room (liver kidney and lymphnode cancer..he passed in 2011) so I thought ..ok.. NO!! Extremely constipating!! Was in bed all summer suffering and ended up in ER..so if you tend to get constipated.. and they try this on you ..BEWARE!! The first thing the ER doctor said "ohhh constipating!! when I told him.. and that was worse than the nausea!! I know what a toll this can take on your life and your nerves!! It creates it's own anxiety!! People just don't understand.. I am praying that they will resolve your issue.. you have so much on your plate .. and so many reasons to live!! (Jesus went to the cross so that we might have life and life more abundantly..I'm still standing!! and have been healed of my things..but seem to have a "spirit of infirmity.. which I am rebuking and standig my ground!!) Praying for you and asking God to heal you and your family!!
It just dawned on me!! Have your had your ears checked for ear wax..??? I did that..and they got alot out of one ear..(she had been mentioning this for several years..but finally did it when GI told me to have her do it).. maybe..it's just a suggestion!! Continued prayers!!! Claiming victory for you in Jesus mighty name!!
I want to tell you how sorry I am your husband has passed. Yes, I had tried the patch behind the ear a couple of times. It didn’t work. Another condition I have is tinnitus. Don’t know if it’s from medications, loud music from concerts we would go to when we were younger or getting older. The ear specialist a couple of years ago wanted me to try a supplement. I don’t do well with supplements. I didn’t take it. My husband and I have been married 44 years this June. He helps me out tremendously. I forgot to mention with all those other things that happened to our family is my husband was on long term disability and then retired. I’m going to have my dr check my ears. Hopefully, she doesn’t get overwhelmed with all my questions. I’m overwhelmed with all of this. I appreciate your kind words and prayers. Take care. My name is Flo from northern Illinois. 🙏
Thank you Flo for your kind words!!And I'm so sorry your husband had to get on long term disability.. that is another big stressor..my husband was a 100% DAV Vietnam veteran..(he actually volunteered..Army Infantry Lai Khe 68-69) ..said he'd never join anything else again!! We married late (he'd been single for 18 years (retraining him was a task!!) He's been gone almost 15 years.. we were together for 13.. I don't have any children ..I'm 71..I think it is awesome that your husband helps you!! He must be a very special guy!! Wishing you many more years together!! and so glad your survived "the patch".. I was so constipated..(but then I usually am..) I can't imagine how overwhelmed you must feel... and I go to the doctor with a LIST of questions.. so ask your doctor all you have.. that's what they are there for!!I hope the ear wax is the problem.. simple solution! That would be so nice! You'll have to let me know!! I'll be praying for you!! My name is Terry from Eastern Oklahoma (Cherokee reservation) I appreciate you!! Asking God for miracles for you and your family!!
Hi Terry, again thank you for your kind words. My husband was in the Marines during Vietnam (73-76). They sent him everywhere except Vietnam. One of the scariest things I went through was last year. It was quite by accident. I had bladder cancer. I went thru surgery and now cancer free. Just one dose of chemo injected into the bladder. I have to go back to the urologist for checkups. During the same time last year I had a polyp in my uterus. Another surgery to remove it. Stressful year. I just turned 69 and my husband, Doug turns 71 in September. It’s neat you live on an Indian reservation. I’m 100% Italian. My grandparents were from Italy. Doug is Heinz 57 (German, Irish and Dutch). I appreciate you as well. Thanks for your prayers. I’ll keep in touch. Take care 🙏
Hi Terry, I seen my pcp. She checked my ears. No wax. She is referring me to another gastro dr. A consultation to go over functional nausea. Since the vagus nerve affects the digestion he may recommend a vagus nerve device. My dr also stated my bp goes up and down. Another reason the vagus nerve could be over stimulated. I have to wait about a month to see him. Unless, there’s a cancellation. Thanks for being a friend.
