no. just a scan due to my age, apparently. I'm 65. Didn't feel a thing. I actually stretch and walk everyday and eat quite healthy. I was shocked. I started eating more calcium and have begun taking Citracal. But I'm holding off on an RX for a year to see if I can improve it myself.

Wow! That is great news. So it is possible to have a reversal. I just got diagnosed last week and the doctor wants to put me on alendronate/fosamax. I have heard so many people for taking and others to just do lifestyle changes. I really don’t want to go on any meds if it can be helped. My t score is -3.2 what was yours?

I started on fosamax (my internal medicine dr) - was on it for 4 months- absolutely zero side effects. I went off it because I wanted to see an endo and weigh all options. It’s quite a lot of info to sort through! I’m currently in the 2’s except my forearm which is a 3. This is all so confusing. My endo said I could do evenity if I wished but…..I don’t know!

Dawn, Did you have any warning before this happened, such as bone pain in femurs? Did you do CTX bone markers to monitor what alendronate was doing prior to the fractures? I am very sorry this happened to you. Pray you get stronger daily.

I did not see the warning because t think it has been more apparent and visible since the 2024 lawsuits. Because I was only on for 2 1/2 years I didn’t get a dexa scan.
However since the surgery it shows severe osteoporosis in my arms. Because of deterioration in my spine and titanium in my legs they were unable to dexa scan there.
I am 91 next month and because there is such minimal improvement and possible severe side effects with osteoporosis drugs I have decided to not take any and just be careful.
I walk 3 miles a day and exercise 4 or 5 days a week to try to make myself stronger.

Sorry forgot to tell you in my earlier message that I had no pain in the femurs.
My brother recently fell and both femurs broke and his surgery was much more difficult.
Will take much longer for him to rehab.
So grateful my orthopedist wanted to do the surgery the next day after initial appointment.

So no prescription meds? I was diagnosed last week with a t score of -3.2. My doctor wants me to take meds, but i really don’t want to if i can take supplements and do lifestyle modifications. What was your t score?

My T score in my arms was 5.

Thank you for responding. You have been through a lot and yet you are still walking and exercising! Amazing you had no pain in the femurs. That is very encouraging. So sorry though about your brother. May he heal more quickly than they expect.

I just got diagnosed last week and my GP wanted to put me on alendronate right away. But i would like to speak to an endocrinologist first to weigh all my options. First, i want to know if my number of -3.2 is very bad?. My diagnosis was a total shock because I am only 63, am in good health and exercise 3x a week.

Ditto. My first at 62 was 3.7, next year. 3.5, then last was 3.7. All while on alendronate. It did not change my T score and am starting with an endocrinologist

I did a yoga for healthy bones class today. Just by coincidence, there was a presentation by a dietitian right after my yoga class about osteoporosis. Her presentation was very helpful. I am going to eat well, do weight bearing exercises while i wait for my appointment with the endocrinologist. Good luck to you and thanks for your reply.
