Has anyone had a sigmoid colectomy and had recurring diverticulitis years later? I recently have had a couple acute episodes and the infection is at the colonic to colonic connection.

Hi, @pdemarce - sorry to hear about your acute episodes of diverticulitis.

I wanted to clarify that you had diverticulitis, then had sigmoid colectomy to treat the diverticulitis, then later had diverticulitis once again? With the diverticulitis and the acute episodes, what symptoms have you experienced?

Hello,
Yes. I have severe diverticulitis years ago mistaking it for kidney stones. The pain was similar. So I just waited for the stone to pass. Obviously that never happened. I had a perforated colon. Surgery then was to remove my sigmoid colon. 7 years ago. I’ve had 3-4 episodes of diverticulitis in the last year and a half. The last being the most severe 4 weeks ago. My symptoms were severe pain in my lower left abdomen, chills, fever and severe body aches. So I went to the ER and they did a CT scan and verified it. Along with a blood test that indicated my white blood cell count was high. The infection and inflammation showed on the CT that it was at the location of my previous surgery. At the connection of where they attached my colon back together. I now have appointments set up in Rochester to see what happens next.
