I'm new to the group. I have many, many lipomas throughout my body. I've had quite a few removed in the past but they still keep coming. Most are extremely painful while some are minimally painful. I don't know where to start with finding a doctor since finding out about Dercum's disease. My original Internist knew I had them but never offered any info other than see a surgeon for removal. I'm thinking that maybe a dermatologist could diagnose it. How did most of you start?

Hi, I'm so sorry you're going through this. Most doctors have never heard of Dercum's and are not willing to become educated. Dr Karen Herbst in Tucson at Roxbury Institute can make the diagnosis. I was diagnosed by her almost a year ago. Otherwise, this is a self-guided journey, and I would recommend the Facebook groups Dercum's Disease Answers et al. It's thought to be an autoimmune or metabolic disorder, and I have found what I eat affects how I feel. Anti-inflammatory diet is best. I'm currently trying to learn more about the lymph system involvement and if lymph drainage may be advantageous. Good luck to you!
