I agree with you when you say "I want off"! I was diagnosed with PMR in January and ended up in Urgent Care unable to walk or get out of bed unassisted. I went from a high dose and in the past month have started to taper off. I have been on one 5mg a day pill for the past 2 weeks and now my doctor wants me to taper off by taking 4 mg for 14 days, then 13 mg for another 14 days, etc. These pills are one mg only so I have to take 4 of these pills each morning.
I would like to know if anyone else has experienced gut pains from taking 4 at a time or any other side effects.

Regarding “gut pain”:
Hopefully you are 1) taking prednisone with food, and, 2) NOT also taking an NSAID without your doc’s specific approval AND then with an antacid like Prilosec.
Be careful with these powerful meds. Good luck.

I take a prescription proton pump inhibitor, Pantoprazole, to protect my gut. I have been taking prednisone for 10 months to treat GCA and PMR. I started at 60 mg per day, and now I'm down to 4. I always take the prednisone with breakfast.
