Does anterior approach THR require toilet riser and walker

Hi. Having THR soon. Physical done by ortho PA. She said there is no restriction on leg movement. Has anyone here not needed a toilet riser or walker after anterior approach THR?

Thank you for your response. What is a leg lifter?

I see there were replies to your question about a leg lifter. It was very helpful for lifting my leg into bed because your muscles aren’t quite awake after surgery and the muscles are a little beat up. The long strap has a loop that goes around your foot and you use your hands to pull up your leg into bed. For about $9 I was glad I bought it and used it for 2-3 weeks.

I have tall toilets but not enough to keep knee from bending too much. So the raised toilet seat (with handles) was really helpful and I used it for over a month. Same with walker for daily use. I now keep the walker next to my bed to head to the toilet twice a night. I am so sleepy and wobbly so it keeps me steady. Probably will use it forever.

1. Suggest to sit on your toilet before surgery, consider if you are able to sit without breaking 90 degrees hip bending. If you are moderately tall and you have standard low toilets, a riser probably will help.
2. In regards to precautions after anterior hip replacement, I recommend reading about this, I believe you will find various opinions but at least some precautions will apply, especially the first weeks and months. I was "cleared" of precautions and dislocated at 10 weeks bending at the waist, unusual but be careful for at least as long as your doc and physical therapist advise and maybe a couple months more!

Hi. I’m on day 24 post replacement. Both the surgeon and PA advised I have no leg movement restrictions. And surprisingly, I have no pain bending to the front or sideways. Still discomfort when weight bearing but getting better. I’ll double check with surgeon re the 90 degree bend when I see him in three weeks.
