Does anyone have experience with a Reverse shoulder replacement?

I am scheduled for a reverse shoulder replacement in September because the rotator cuff repair (3.3 cm) did not work. The idea of reversing parts is a little unnerving.

Yes, the reversal of parts seemed a bit morbid to me too! I was also leary of such drastic bone cutting so close to my head and neck, despite having two knee TKR's previously. But it turned out better than I expected, I have no more arthritis pain, full mobility of my arm, and rarely think about it being an artificial joint. I wish you as good luck as I had.

The TSR has been a problem for me, after 3 failed attempts on a simple shoulder replacement, Dr all of a sudden realized that the rotator cuff was in fact bad, it has not been the same since. I would hope your surgery goes well. Therapy is a great idea and helps out in the recovery process, hope its not the arm you rely on that's and adjustment also.

I am 72 years old and had reverse shoulder replacement done back in 2021. I have severe degenerative disc disease and have over 20 surgeries on my spine from my cervical to my lumbar spines. I have to say that out of all of my surgeries, my reverse shoulder replacement was the easiest surgery that I have experienced. When I woke up in the recovery room, I experienced almost no pain because my surgeon had placed a pain pump that slowly released lidocaine into the shoulder. I carried the pump in a sling for the next week and when it was removed I was pain free. After this was removed I started physical therapy and did my exercises religiously for the next 6 .weeks until all movement was restored.
This surgery was by far the easiest I have ever experienced.

Can I ask what hospital and your surgeon’s name please?

I wouldn’t mind telling you, but Why do you ask?

My request for hospital and surgeon's name was to "belgagrande". I am of a similar age and have been told I need a reverse shoulder replacement. He/she seemed to have a very good outcome. I would like to find a surgeon near me who is experienced with this type of surgery.

I had a reverse replacement in July 2024. I had been in severe chronic pain for five years. Best decision ever. I am almost pain free, but not totally. I do not have full range of motion but it is significantly better. So I can't say it was 100% a success, but in my opinion was definitely worth it. Had it done at Mayo Rochester.

I had reverse shoulder replacement in October of 2024 at Mayo Clinic in Rodchester by Dr (Spanish name). Has not hurt one time. Done on dominant shoulder. Wish I had done it 3 years earlier. Still doing PT at home. Going to do other shoulder this fall. I am 85
