Total knee replacement
Hi everyone where ever you are, so I’m 6 weeks post op on my right knee, I’ve got my ROM at about 85, but I’m not complaining, the pain is so horrendous, it’s making me depressed, I’m in Australia so the medication would be different to the US, my doctor told me that I’m on some pretty serious medication, but it’s just not working, the burning sensation is worse to when that epidural wore off. I had my other knee replaced about 8 months ago and the pain was nowhere near as this.
I’m only getting maximum 5 hours sleep a night because I wake up in serve pain.
It’s really dragging me down.

Here is a website you may find helpful. It's called, "Bonesmart.org". Doing too much too soon, is what causes inflammation, swelling, and ultimately that scar tissue. Try to just do gentle slides and bends, several times per day - GENTLY!! PT is now kinder, and understands the problems created by "pushing through the pain". Just push to the point of discomfort - that is all. Try to get a cryotherapy machine, and use it before and after PT for swelling and pain relief. It really helps. But the experts at Bonesmart.org are very helpful.
Great, I’ll check it out today. Thanks so much.
maybe, nerves around the knee got damaged or cut during your tkr ? I had a Left tkr on 9/18/2023 and I've done great so far, my fingers are crossed. Hugs....
I always wondered about this. They had 2 people bending my leg or pushing down on it. It was excruciating. 3x a week for months ( after MUA too). Next knee = different PT and better follow up w surgeon ( 4 hours away).
I followed BoneSmart's recommendation where to have a revision TKR and it was a disaster!
BoneSmart stands with the minority in the concept of not going beyond pain in PT. Again, in this world of opinions, whether right or wrong, it's just another opinion. Until Orthopedist and physical therapist agree on procedures from surgery to recovery every TKR is a crap shoot. You can debate me with the argument that every case is different but all my surgeries were to relieve me of bone on bone pain. I had different surgeons, different hospitals, different prosthetics, and oh so many different physical therapist methods.
