Has a colonoscopy ever affected your neuropathy?
Has a colonoscopy ever affected your neuropathy I think I’m going to have to have one this week and I want to know what kind of effects it has. Not looking forward to any of it. How in the world can I keep my feet warm while that’s going on????

Hugs are so important. They offer comfort and make us feel connected to the group, when in reality, we are scared and oh so tired of pain and suffering ... and, the unknown.
What do you mean, you may not have the colonoscopy? If you are 50 years of age or over, I strongly suggest you have the procedure done. I suggest any gender 50 or over have it done. Don't be afraid. It won't bite you in the ass. Pun intended. < smile> Just look at the colonoscopy as being your best friend, because it really is.
Everyone has the right to their own opinion. And my bold and experienced opinion says, go with the gallon of GOLYTELY along with the Dulcolax tablets. You drink the liquid every 10 minutes until it's gone, usually from 10am to 3 pm. You will end up sitting on the toilet for about the last 1-2 hours drinking the liquid. Oh, I don't mind the flavor at all. If I remember right, it's almost a very light saline taste. Or maybe it was lemon. Can't remember. Sending you warm fuzzies and a huge virtual hug. CB
That's a question for your healthcare provider, especially if you are taking medication.
You don't need to ask, they provide them automatically. Your nursing staff will take very good care of you.
I forgot to mention one very important thing to ask your surgeon about. If you've had surgeries, such as a hysterectomy or anything near the GI track where you may have adhesions ... ask to be put out completely. They always put me out completely because the scope needs to move freely through the the intestines and I have adhesions from a hysterectomy.
Also when they give me the IV, I always ask to have them do it bracially, in the area at the bend of the elbow. They usually give an IV at the radial, wrist area. If you ask, they will listen and give the IV where you prefer.
Miralax and the other laxatives you have to drink before a colonoscopy are made with PEG, a petroleum byproduct, which can trigger neurological symptoms in some people, including those with small fiber neuropathy. I avoid PEG because the last time it sent me into a major flare. I will ask for an alternative, Lactulose, for my next colonoscopy. But this is a sugar alternative and would not be suitable for those with diabetes. The colonoscopy itself was no big deal.
Hi Bcool, this is one medical procedure where the juice GREATLY EXCEEDS the squeeze! I battle feet neuropathy from spine issues but have never been worse (or better) due to having a colonoscopy. And I’ve been on the 5 year plan for 20 years due to family history & polyps from previous colonoscopies. The night before prep isn’t fun but it’s not as bad as some make it out to be. Not having it done, however, can be catastrophic. A business colleague never went to a doctor & frankly, he was a very macho kinda guy. He went to ER one night when stomach pains he’d been having became unbearable. Diagnosed with stage 4 colon cancer, he died 9 months later at the age of 54. Please(!), as CB3 mentions, don’t skip your colonoscopy! All the best to you & (heh-heh) Bcool…
Ok ran, after your note I’m going to get “lt” set up. I’ve had it done before so I know what I’m looking forward to! The juice and the squeeze!! Thanks for the support,
Bcool
Thanks for the info. I will avoid PEG! Not interested in going into that flareup again. my sugars have been pretty low, so maybe I’ll be OK on the. lactulose. I’ll check with my doc on the sugar content. Bcool
Thanks for talking to me about the adhesions and also about the IV placement. I wrote those down along with all the other information you guys have given me. I’m so glad I brought this up here where you guys have so much experience. Sorry if it had to be with a colonoscopy…! Bcool
cb3. Thanks for your support. I want to go for me?! Bcool
