Scheduled for prostate removal next week urine test: Staphylococcus
I went for my Pre-Op Friday and bloodwork looks fine. Last night I got another test results and this popped up. I'm calling the Dr. office first time Monday morning. I have no idea what is going to happen now. It took me a month to get scheduled for my surgery for a Robotic Assisted Prostatectomy with Bilateral Pelvic Lymph Node Dissection. I've posted earlier about my situation but anyway I have a Gleason Score of 8 but luckily there's no spread according the PET scan. I've searched and haven't found much about anything like this Staphylococcus in urine mess. I had myself ready for this but now not so much. Just need to talk.

Oh that's annoying.
Still... they test for urine infections to minimize complications during surgery & recovery.
So it's good that they picked it up, but annoying to wait longer.
Hopefully meds will clear that up in a few days & you'll be back on track.
This situation does occur and is one of the reasons that your blood is tested for infections. It is not necessarily a reason to delay the surgery. I’m assuming that your RP is scheduled for this coming Friday (one week after prep meeting).
You should expect to be given antibiotics on Monday. You will also be given antibiotics as part of the surgery. Your Surgeon and Anesthesiologist will let you know in advance if they have any concerns about the infection.
Prior to my knee replacement, they did a nose swap to detect Mersa, but they found staph. The nurse told me that most Americans have staph, but as a virus lays dormant. Staph tends to move to a vulnerable area, which would be a surgical site. I was put on antibiotics for five days prior to my surgery, and five after. No problems occurred. Best wishes!
My RARP was done 3 week ago on 4/7. Pre surgery bloodwork the previous friday revealed the start of a UTI. Thought the same thing that surgery would be delayed. Provider started me on a course of Keflex (3x/day) right up to the morning of surgery. Was thankful that they caught it
They called and are putting me on Bactrim for a week and they say it's ok to have the surgery on May 5th. She said they have patients all the time with infections(UTI's) and as long as they're on antibiotics they do fine. She also said it's low level non-contagious Staph. One nurse said this morning that there was no way they would do with Staph in the urine so I'm a little confused.
go with the "as long as they are on antibiotics they do fine". You could confirm with your provider to allay any anxiety! Best of luck.
Don’t listen to side comments from anyone - go by what the dr office told you
Problem has risen, I'm allergic to Bactrim. Been up since 3am scratching. Broke out into a rash during the night. Waiting on Drs. office to call back. Seriously thinking about postponing the surgery, something just doesn't feel right. Next available is mid-June.
Surgeon wants to see me this morning. He has already called in Nitrofurantoin monohydrate/macrocrystals antibiotic. So we'll go from there.
PLEASE!! do not take staph lightly. It can kill you! Can also spread to other organs as well.
Best,
SW
