Regarding affects everyone differently and has no specific cause. It's a mystery in most cases, especially in those when it suddenly appears. We do know that exposure to loud noise in duration or also of sudden impact can cause tinnitus. Tinnitus is listed as the most common disability suffered by military service members returning from combat zones. It is often accompanied by hearing loss but not always.

Obviously, there have to be many other causes. I refer you to The American Tinnitus Association for the most information I've been able to find. Their website has a great deal of information. http://www.ata.org

ATA is a nonprofit organization dedicated to finding causes and cures for tinnitus and to provide support to those who suffer from it. They appreciate donations, but you do not have to donate to get the research information they share. ATA also has support groups located in various areas of the United States. Those are listed on the website.

Have any of the hearing healthcare professionals you have seen mentioned getting information and/or support from ATA?
