ideopathic neuropathy/trigeminal neuropathy
Hi!
I am a personal fitness trainer and on my feet most of the day. A few years ago, I began having burning on the bottom of my feet. After changing out my workout shoes a few times thinking they may be the issue, I made an appointment with a neurologist and after many tests and examinations, I was diagnosed with ideopathic neuropathy and was put on Lyrica and Cymbalta for the pain. I then began to experience pain in my hands and the dose of Lyrica was increased. Now I am getting bouts of teeth sensitivity, lip tingling, as well as facial and head...for lack of better word...weirdness! I have made an appointment to go back to my neurologist for these new symptoms.
Have any of you experienced these symptoms and what treatments have you gotten for them, and have you gotten any relief? I would like to hear of any homeopathic treatments as well!
Thank you for you input!

Hi Donna,
Perfect timing with what you mentioned. I have recently been experiencing major weirdness in my face and mouth areas also. Even my dentist told me to mention it to my neurologist. However, since I have recently been diagnosed with large fiber peripheral neuropathy along with cervical and lumbar radiculopathy and also a possible early onset of small fiber neuropathy, I will be seeing my neurologist for the second time on May 1st. I had already been on many medications and nothing helped at all. I’m waiting for my appointment to hopefully get some answers on how to move forward to alleviate just a little of the pain I am now constantly going through as my neuropathy seems to be progressing fast. I’m in pain territory now and not just tingling and numbness.
Neuropathy is a very weird condition and each person goes through different things with it. Sorry I am not able to add more as I am yet to find some answers. Maybe I’ll be able to add more once I see the neurologist.
Take care and I wish you the best.
Hi Donna @donnagautreaux, Sorry to hear that your neuropathy seems to be progressing fast and hoping you get some answers when you see your neurologist. I only have numbness and some tingling with my neuropathy so medications aren't an option for me. I shared my neuropathy journey in another discussion here - https://connect.mayoclinic.org/comment/310341/. You are not alone with the burning feet as there are many discussions started by members on those symptoms. Here's a list if you want to scan through the different discussions - https://connect.mayoclinic.org/search/discussions/?search=neuropathy%20burning%20feet.
A good source of information for neuropathy is the Foundation for Peripheral Neuropathy. They have a list of the different treatments including complementary and alternative therapies that you might find helpful - https://www.foundationforpn.org/therapies/.

Did you have bloodwork done by your neurologist? Did you have any abnormalities/vitamin deficiencies or toxicities? How is your sugar level? Do you drink any alcohol?
It is best to focus on removing as many toxins in your life and eating a diet filled with antioxidants and inflammation reducing foods. You may want to work with a nutritionist/dietitian on changes to help you manage your neuropathy and support nerve health while reducing toxins/inflammation.
I take alpha Lipoic acid and Acetyl l carnitine plus magnesium for my small fiber neuropathy pain (started with burning feet). Capsaicin and Salonpas lidocaine/nerve pain patches and creams have helped me, too.
Heat can aggravate feet burning due to swelling of tissues so if you are a trainer, exercise and expansion of tissues in feet after exercise may add to the pain so after workouts, it would be good to cool feet in cool water or use ice packs. Compression socks can help, too.
