Hello Tevadog-
I really think what you and your sister are doing "sending 5 gratitude(s) a day to each other" is a great idea.
Another good thing is what @ssoma151 has mentioned and suggested above. I have done that somewhat when doing my simple exercise but hope to incorporate more of it while doing one of my postural drainage exercises. As we know mediation is always suggested to help during stress or difficult times. This health issue pushes us into things we may never have incorporated into our lives before, or at least not on a consistent basis. One thing I found myself saying a few years back, that I had not heard others saying " Human nature is stronger than self discipline." So as I said, we find ourselves needing to break certain habits while developing and practicing greater and stronger self discipline...and that is not an easy thing to do if one has had any easy life, as I, with no chronic health problem until now.
My diagnosis finally came after approximately three years (age 79) of my first experiencing of what I now know was the beginning of my lungs inability to work normally in clearing the mucus out naturally from my lungs.
For me it is nearly a constant need to clear what is in my throat all day long. I do some simple exercises before doing my air lung therapy to clear the mucus out twice a day and then deep breathing with the 4/7/8 count before doing huff coughing several times a day, especially after eating due to the feeling of mucus needing to be cleared out.
I am single myself and truly understand all you have gone through to be saying what you have said above about where you find yourself in life now after having lived through all you did until now. Life happens, people are who they are and we are who we are....it all plays a part in the big picture. Having been involved with several immediate family members with their own chronic health problems before their passing now allows me to be able to fully concentrate on my own health and allows me the time to do all that I need to do for myself. I have very much had to talk to myself and have come to accept my life as it is now with it's limitations due to the BE and what it causes for me, HOWEVER, there are times I need to talk to myself and give myself a talking to. So far the pep talks have helped keep me going especially with my trading one favorite activity (time wise) for another. More time cooking vs. time gardening in the landscape beds, which I do not do anymore. I have help with the landscape and flower beds, so far, the beauty of it all brings me joy. I do have an inground swimming pool that I just recently said to myself about it: "its like having a kid that never grew up and learned how to take care of themselves." The pool however is shared a few times in the summer with a few of my neighbors to enjoy and allows us to visit with each other. That's a good thing and one of the changes I have made to help me find my way to making the changes I needed to make..... to enjoy life as it is now.
Glad you have your sister to help with the support you need and then in reverse that which you are able to give to her. It will be interesting for you both to hear and share what your doctors have said and discussed with you both. I have a "baby sister" (Age 69) in New Jersey and I am in Oklahoma City. It is just she and I . We have lost all other immediate family members. I have suggested she be tested due to all I know about her. So far I'm not sure she feels it is necessary.
Hope you are having a good day.
Barbara

Are you on antibiotic therapy and doing airway clearance? You might want to chat with @blm1007blm1007 about her journey.
