Taking the bag off might be pulling the stomahesive up just enough to weaken its hold around the stoma, increasing its proclivity for leaking?

I could not deal with emptying the bag and everyone I tried leaked so I had to change the base out almost every day and I just never felt clean. I went to a coloplast mio flex convex closed end pouch which fits well and I simply change the bag out when full and throw it away. It takes me 5 to 7 minutes to change bag and I feel so much cleaner and no odor. I have very bad arthritis in my right hand making it very difficult to empty and clean a bag so the disposal bags work best for me. Every now and then I have problem with leakage when stool pancakes but its usually due to what I eat. I never have a skin problem and I believe its because I wash it with warm water every time I change my bag When I first tried open ended if I would get two or more days out of base plate I itched and my skin was very uncomfortable. Call coloplast and they will send samples of bags you can try. I love my closed end disposal bags and would never go back to one I have to empty or clean At 86 after much trials and error this works for me
