about to begin Evenity and nervous about side effects
Hello!
I am a 65 yo healthy, active woman with osteoporosis. I had been on fosamax for nearly 5 years and a recent bone density showed that it is no longer effective. I have bone loss in my spine and hip. Evenity is recommended and approved by insurance.
I am very nervous about side effects and prescription meds in general, but don't want to break any bones. I trust my doctors, but am still apprehensive as this is a fairly new med and the side effects are scary! Can anyone share their experience with this med?
Thank you and good health to all

Hi, I have had eight shots of Evenity with few to no side effects. My understanding is that about 5% of people experience difficult side effects. I will post my before and after Dexa Scan numbers when I’m done in July. I hope this is helpful and good luck.
I am on the 8th set of shots and have had no side effects. I saw a cardiologist before I started and he saw no reason for me not to take this.
Hello ! I see this post is from a year ago but it is what popped up when google concerns about Evenity. I too have been hesitating to begin treatment for my severe osteoporosis but felt perhaps the gains out weigh the risks. Many years ago when first diagnosed with osteopina I did not tolerate any of the oral drugs well. I tried self injections of Forteo but after a week or so broke out in body hives. I decided then to pass on treatment. Fast forward to age 70 and a very worrisome dexa score, my endocrinologist felt Evenity would be the best choice for me. Because I will be monitored when given the monthly shots, I find some assurance in that if I should have any immediate reactions. All of the replies above also make me feel hopeful so I thank you all for your replies. I understand Evenity can be a risk for patients with heart problems. The structure of my heart is fine, but I did have pvc’s, (premature ventricular contractions), which my doctor said should not be a concern. But I am curious to know if anyone with pvc’s having Evenity treatments has had any heart issues at all, ie: increased palpitations. I am hoping my post will be seen even though I am responding to older posts.
Many thanks, Ellen
I'm sorry for the late reply.
I had very good gains and my DEXA showed that osteopenia, no longer osteoporosis! I posted this somewhere else on this board, but not sure where. After much consideration, I began Prolia last July and had my 2nd this January with no side effects. I chose to get the injections in my abdomen due to my experience with Evenity (extreme arm soreness, but no abdominal soreness).
I'm aware of the controversies of Prolia as well as any of the treatments for osteoporosis, but at this time I feel like I made the correct decision for me.
Thanks for your update journey!
I was one of the unfortunate. I need to take something so badly, but haven't tolerated any of the drugs for osteoporosis. I had severe insomnia on one dose Evenity. I could not fall asleep or stay asleep without huge difficulty for the entire month. It made me a disaster. I would love to know how the drug works and why this may have happened.
