Lung cancer with unrelated pancreatic cancer

My husband was diagnosed with lung cancer in summer 2023. Mets to spine (where cancer was first found) and lymph nodes. Always bothered me that the test results kept coming back as "consistent" with lung cancer. Chemo and immunotherapy did nothing. There was a spot on the pancreas that all doctors seemed to ignore. We changed to a different oncologist even though a second opinion from virtual Cleveland Clinic also had said "consistent" with lung cancer. New doctor immediately did a CA19-9 blood test which showed numbers above 39000. Pancreatic cancer all along. Chemo changed to fight pancreatic cancer and saw an immediate decline in the CA19-9 numbers.
Resistance now to all chemo for pancreatic cancer so now looking for a miracle. Oncologist is trying to get an experimental drug that has been approved for compassionate use for pancreatic cancer.
Treatment for pancan was delayed at least 6 months because of mis diagnosis, though it had already spread so maybe doesn't make a difference in the long run. But I'm still disappointed in the lack of those first two doctors to order a simple blood test.

I'm sorry to hear that about your husband and the lung cancer vs.
pancreatic cancer. I'm still in the process of finding out if that's the
case with me. I agree. I think all oncologists should order a ca19-9 test
for their patients with any kind of abdominal cancer. There is also the
issue of certain immuno. drugs for lung cancer causing pancreatitis. I keep
telling my doctors that I am one of the 2% group. Not financially, but side
effect wise. Miracles do happen. Don't give up.
