Have you heard of new "TOPS" Spine surgery?

Posted by libertyusa @libertyusa, Apr 18 1:34pm

It focuses on Stenosis and Spondylolesthesis which I have. I also have Scoliosis. I have a new Dr., well educated, who I do not think has
much surgery experience. But I am anxious to get going to fix
my problems. Have spent over a year on working on fixing my spine.
I am in the highest age category they will do (80). Am in good shape and basically very healthy.

Would love to hear more about your journey. I,too, have stenosis and spondylothesis.

@libertyusa
What levels of your spine do you have issues with stenosis, spondylolisthesis and scoliosis? What are your current symptoms?

It would be much better to get a well qualified and experienced surgeon who specializes in your type of surgery needed. It would be good to get a 2nd or 3rd opinion from a neurosurgeon and orthopedic spine specialist who are highly reviewed/experienced and recommended by others.

I have had c5-c6 and l3-l5 decompression and fusion surgeries and will have c6-c7 done in May.

Dear @libertyusa

xxxxxx HI, 080 YEAR-PERSON xxxxxc
Hi 80 year-person; I’m the 70 year.

xxxxxx TBI xxxxxx
I’m so glad of your brain is great! I can’t from my TBI a bicycle in 2012 accident and lost my ability , writing, professional way (I was close to the top city manage. I love working at that city…

This later last year, I had a surgery on my bottom back. Years before another doctor stayed the same way for a tiny one. That stoped my running and moved to a bicycle. Stated ago that fixed the same place and added a larger one. Thankfully fixed all my pain from my rear-ends to the bottom of my feet.

Well, have a great way to you,

I have severe spinal stenosis and i have looked into tops. I live near Cleveland clinc and there dr appears to be very good. I spoke to my primary dr this week and he wanted me to have a epidural (my biggest issue is numbess in feet and legs) before i have surgery.

Alot of cleveland clinic dr’s will give you a second opinion for a small charge. (I think $100)

The clinic is one of the top Hospitals in the world.

I am curious if this can be done on someone with osteoporosis which I have. I consulted supposedly one of the best spine surgeons in the country at Cedars-Sinai and he told me I should not have surgery because of my osteoporosis. I have to do something I have the disc that's completely gone now after decompression surgery and tingling and twitching in my left foot. Walking is very painful. I guess I'm going to call Dr steinmetzs office and find out if this can be done on someone with osteoporosis.

Is your Osteoporosis being treated?

I was being treated but then I had the third infusion of reclast where they stop after that. So I need to get back on another drug. Do you have osteoporosis?

Yes I do Annie. I was diagnosed about 9 years ago. Like so many others I was given fosomax/alendronate for the maximum of 5 years. Then forteo for 2 years. After that 1 year of Evenity . I have had 1 shot of Prolia and will do 1 more. I July I am seeing another endocrinologist to see if he will recommend a short/light infusion of reclast then another bone builder like tymlos, forteo or evenity. I don't feel ready at 77 to stay on Prolia for the rest of my life. I'd like to see if he thinks this might work for me. My sequence of drugs is not something I would repeat if I had had more knowledge. In retrospect I would have started with a a bone builder rather than a bisphosphonate which can impede the work of bone builders. I also started bhrt about 8 months ago but not because I thought it would have much positive impact on my bones. If it helps great but I do not believe that it will mean I don't have to continue with osteoporosis meds. I have not really had side effects with any med. Any aches I consider to be the medication doing its job. Good luck to you.
