Terazosin ( Hytrin) effecting prostate cancer
Hi I have 3+4 +7 prostate cancer, High blood pressure, and BPH. My PCM prescribed me Terazosin (hytrin) for my BP. Then I read that caution should be used in prescribing this drug to prostate cancer patients because it can make prostate cancer worst. I emailed my Urologist he said that he never saw any studies saying that this drug effected prostate cancer and to use it. But I am still skeptical does anyone have any info on this drug thanks

I just did quick Googling and it actually says that it possibly HELPS with PC, and I am shocked that this was never discussed nor investigated more. Those meds supposedly suppress PC growth and even cause apoptosis and prevent colony making ( according to articles on NIH.gov) . (???) I will have to read more about this ...
Using it Sound's good actually.
Terazosin, an alpha1-adrenoceptor antagonist, has been shown in laboratory and animal studies to inhibit prostate cancer cell growth and reduce their ability to form colonies
The big medications that cause changes for prostate patients are alpha blockers (terazosin for example), and 5-alpha-reductase inhibitors (dutasteride for example). Terazosin is an alpha blocker. Alpha blockers are not anti-cancer in any big way with some very light and preliminary evidence of smaller possibilities on that, and I doubt they contribute to cancer growth or formation. Here is a basic description of what they do from search:
"Alpha blockers work for prostate issues by relaxing the smooth muscles in the prostate and bladder neck, allowing for easier urination. They achieve this by blocking alpha-1 adrenergic receptors, which are found in these areas and are responsible for smooth muscle contraction. By blocking these receptors, alpha blockers reduce resistance to urine flow and alleviate symptoms of benign prostatic hyperplasia"
