My guess is they tried methotrexate for your son, which can be hard to tolerate and can require a lot of diet & lifestyle changes. Please encourage him to keep trying, as RA will destroy the joint if not treated. There are other medications with fewer and/or milder side effects.
It is unusual for RA to occur in only one joint - was this the result of a trauma or sports injury?

Thank you for your info. He had knee surgery in high school due to miniscus tear, dx with juvenile arthritis then. , 20 years later now having issues maybe triggered by the job, on feet all day etc. I always wondered how can it be RA in only one joint?
