My 30 year young son is struggling with one knee RA. KEEPS going to orthopedics to drain the fluid like every 3 months, gets swollen and pains. Now going to see a rheumatologist, he was dx withRA, he tried methro something, made him sick, now trying to figure out what’s next, also trying to find a different job to accommodate his painful dilemma. Any suggestions are welcome! Thank you 😊

My guess is they tried methotrexate for your son, which can be hard to tolerate and can require a lot of diet & lifestyle changes. Please encourage him to keep trying, as RA will destroy the joint if not treated. There are other medications with fewer and/or milder side effects.
It is unusual for RA to occur in only one joint - was this the result of a trauma or sports injury?
