Is the neurologist talking about research on exercise or Tymlos? It isn't true of either.
Most spinal compression fractures are anterior. Bending forward places a burden on the anterior portion of the spine. The anterior breakage is why with osteoporosis fractures we develop kyphosis-- permanent bent forward posturing. I would suggest not bending forward even at home to pick things up. After you are on Tymlos for two years, you can safely resume some activities. I would focus on leg strength in PT so that you will be using your legs when you resume this lifitng. Be especially careful not twist and bend.
As you know, Tymlos is particularly effective in the spine, as the research confirms.
No lifting over your head either as in weights. In your situation I'd lay low. I'm not convinced that physical therapists are adequately trained with osteoporosis in mind. Yes, weight bearing exercise builds bone, but not now. Stretching is fine. Work the legs with sitting leg lifts and marching. Stop with any muscle spasm or pain.
Janine, there is a doug lucas video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FuY8tvBPY-o
Skip the dead lifts. This isn't the time for training. You don't want extra force to the spine. I like him best on extension, except don't be "flipping over."

I can only comment on my experience with PT after two vertabre fractures. I went straight to PT to strengthen back muscles. In this course, I got two more hairline fractures. Had Kyphoplasty on the last two but first two had healed according to xrays. My spine Dr told me there was a fine line in PT of how much can do more harm than good in some cases. So, he began with a few stretches at home and suggested he may want me to do water therapy.
My spine score is -2.9 and don't know yours but I am now on Tymlos for the last 15 days, working my way up on the dosage. As gently mentioned, I would not be doing any lifting over 5 lbs which isn't much. I am still in pain after the healing so not doing anything is easy for me to remember what not to do. Don't rush for it takes time.

I love Doug Lucas to. I follow Dr. Lisa Moore on Brickhouse bones Facebook group and YouTube videos for exercises. If you have never exercised before she has foundations for beginners.
