Thyroid and Covid vaccine

Posted by barbfdh @barbfdh, Oct 8, 2023

I have been hypothyroid for about 15 years. I started out at 125mcg of Levothyroxine (extra 1/2 pill on Sun.) and 2 of the 5mcg of Liothyronine. Then after receiving first two vaccine shots in Feb. 2021, my TSH level dropped to .311. They reduced my dosage but TSH levels kept dropping and I was in full hyperthyroidism, which makes you feel like you are going crazy. I was going in every 3 months and getting tested. Finally in December, they took me off all thyroid medication and my TSH went to 33.395. Started me on 50mcg Levothyroxine. Then had trouble getting my TSH levels down but still having both hypo & hyper effects. All of 2022 my TSH levels were high until August when I caught Covid. I was put on Prednisone because having long term side effects from Covid. In Sept. 2022 my TSH level was 1.407 but I think it was because of the Prednisone. Then Dec. 2022 my TSH was back up to 4.351 so increased Levothyroxine to 75mcg. Then March 2023 my TSH was 3.423, they thought still too high so increased Levothyroxine to 88mcg. Then June 2023 TSH was 1.668, but was still not feeling right. So kept me on 88mcg but none on Sunday. Last month my TSH was 3.060. So now I am back to 50mcg of Levothyroxine plus extra 1/2 tab on Sat & Sun and 5mcg Liothyronine. I think I can tell the difference maybe. But it has been almost three years of feeling horrible. I don't remember what normal feels like.

After my thyroid levels started going down, I started researching Covid vaccine side effects. In 2021 I could only find one site that referenced Covid vaccine & thyroid. I showed it to my endocrinologist who at the time shrugged it off. Since I have to go in every 3 months, I just kept stating the same thing until she finally started putting it into my notes. I will look into reporting this to VAERS. Thanks for information.

@barbfdh Wondering how your doing with hypothyroidism? My TSH just came back high, with normal T4, so I may be going down the same road. My TSH levels are going to be rechecked in about 4 weeks and I asked the doc to run the check for Hashimoto’s. I doesn’t seem like the treatment is any different but I can’t help thinking that an autoimmune disease has go to be different from regular hypothyroidism.

Are you still doing 3 month checks? I’m concerned that is in my future.

My doctor increased the Liothyronine to quantity 2 daily. Yes, I have to go in every 3 months and get checked. My chart showed that I had Hashimoto's - so finally asked my doctor to check for it and par for the course, I do not have Hashimoto's, just good old fashioned hypothyroidism.
Good luck!
