I have pelvic dyssenergia. Does anyone else have that?
Hi,
I have CIC but also have pelvic dyssenergia. Does anyone else have that? I have been to pelvic floor PT but still can’t evacuate completely. Wonder if anyone has any suggestions. Thank you

Hi, @ltarashuk - as pelvic floor dyssynergia is a worthy topic on its own, I've moved your comment on it to start a new discussion.
Tagging a few other members of Mayo Clinic Connect who may be familiar with pelvic floor dyssynergia and have some suggestions for evacuating completely with this condition @emo @jmmb @johnbishop @lazycatdayz @bmelvin @ashweb901.
Other than pelvic floor PT, has your doctor had you try other medications or therapies?
Hi and thank you for your help. I am prescribed Motegrity and taking miralax and magnesium because I also have slow transit constipation. I have been trying for months to get a motility specialist. Appreciate your help.
And @ltarashuk - I'd also like you to meet @kariulrich, who may have thoughts on managing your pelvic floor dyssynergia and evacuating completely.
Hi @ltarashuk - I haven't been diagnosed with pelvic floor dyssynergia or chronic idiopathic constipation but I do have a lot of the symptoms. I have some history of off and on constipation but it has been much worse since I had a failed colonoscopy in 2022 followed by a bi-lateral inguinal hernia repair surgery a year later. I haven't done pelvic floor PT but have focused on exercising 40 to 80 minutes daily on a cross-training exercise bike and a rowing machine which helps some. I did see some information from Mayo Clinic that might be worth looking into - Unique, intensive curriculum helps patients retrain pelvic floor muscles: https://www.mayoclinic.org/medical-professionals/physical-medicine-rehabilitation/news/unique-intensive-curriculum-helps-patients-retrain-pelvic-floor-muscles/mac-20506013.
Miralax helped for awhile but doesn't work very well for me lately. What I have found helps me when the constipation has gone on for a few days is drinking a cup of senna tea at night.
Thank you for all the great information
Thank you. I would love to talk to someone about this. I have had 20 plus sessions of PT and do my exercises daily and still can’t function properly.
I should have mentioned I discussed the senna tea with my doctor first as I think there are some warnings on who shouldn't use it - https://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/320659.
How were you diagnosed?
Can you have this condition that occurs intermittently? Sometimes things are fine. Other times it sounds like this is what I have.
After being under the care of a team of gastroenterologists for 2 years for chronic constipation, I can’t understand why this has never been mentioned nor tested for.
Hi, I went years before being diagnosed. After my 3rd GI doctor, I was sent for anorectol manometry testing and balloon expulsion testing which confirmed the diagnosis. I went years with constipation and fecal incontinence before diagnosis. I now have control over the incontinence.
Lordy…..I will now need to get a new team of doctors. Ugh….My SIBO tests are early next month.
