Sorry to hear about your pneumonia! It's quite sneaky.

Eddosteine looks to be a cousin of NAC but not as long lasting or as potent. Here's a study describing its effectiveness in COPD, European based. Not a panacea for bronchiectasis but another something that might give some relief.

In summary, the Zatloukal et al. study helps fill the gap in
the algorithm for preventing exacerbations of COPD with a
broadly available and inexpensive drug without safety sig-
nals. Importantly, the effect size of this treatment is like
other add-on treatments, i.e., inhaled corticosteroids, bron-
chodilators, biologics, or rehabilitation for the prevention of
COPD exacerbations.
