Possible thyroid cancer but also having Orencia infusions
My thyroid ultrasound has suspicious new blood flow and tissue around nodules to my right side of the thyroid. I am waiting for a fine needle aspiration biopsy . I also have Addison's disease , so the stress while waiting is not good. Has anyone else had to deal with this while have multiple autoimmune diseases ?
I am very shaken about it all.

My 36yr old daughter just had a Thyroidectomy and I-131 radioactive iodine therapy. She’s also on dialysis which has taken a toll on her body. I can understand the stress you’re going through. Hang in there and think positive! Best of luck with everything! 🙏
Thank you so much for your input ... I am truly sorry your daughter is going through so much herself.
I have heard from my GP and the wait list is 12 to 18 months to get the biopsy done. But she is trying for hospitals further away from why I live and it might move the time line a bit ... this is when I get angry about our health care system ... the waiting periods are ridiculous and so stressful.
Wow! Sorry you have to wait so long. My daughter had to wait about 4 months to get her Thyroidectomy! Can’t imagine how much the cancer spread there. I sure hope the best for you and you are so right about our health care system. Sometimes it’s crazy. I have offered to send my daughter elsewhere outside of Montana but she doesn’t want to go.
Best of luck to you!!🙏 Hang in there, day by day is what I tell my daughter. Shouldn’t be like that at 36yrs old.

Have you read the ultrasound report to know how many nodules you have and their size/makeup? The report should provide a scoring of the nodules based on size, calcifications, density/opaqueness, etc.

I have had a lobectomy of my right lobe due to a suspicious 2.5 cm nodules. It wasn’t fully cancerous but there was a micro cancer found. I did not need radiation at the time and just need to monitor my left lobe.
My sister had thyroid cancer at 27 and had a full thyroidectomy and radiation. She is now on thyroid medication for life. I need to take medication as well due to Hashimoto’s and hypothyroidism.
Are your nodules new or did you know about them and just monitoring them for changes? Do you have a family history of thyroid cancer? Have you had the full thyroid blood panel and does it show thyroid antibodies/elevated TPO (is your body’s immune system attacking your thyroid )?
You are so right, 36 is way too young to have to deal with this.
I am Canadian, we have a lot of positive things about our medical care system .. cost is the huge bonus .. most care is free.
BUT ... waiting time for procedures is insane.. I keep thinking the longer I have to wait , the more the cancer maybe invading my body . There is nothing I can do but i give my GP credit because she is trying to find another hospital outside our city that can do things sooner.
I hope for the best for your daughter and everyone else that is going through harden times.

What country are you in? I can understand the frustration having to wait so long for care, especially when you have something suspicious.
Is there a way to get scheduled sooner if there are cancellations? How does your system prioritize patient conditions.
My nodule was found incidentally on a ct scan for a different surgery (cervical spine). I had gone for over 3 years until my nodule was discovered (by me reviewing my own reports) until I got a fine needle aspiration and had to fight to get a 2nd when found suspicious and the doctor wanted to wait another year to monitor.
I'm Canadian and it is always a hot topic about wait times for procedures ... patient situations should be prioritized but it seems to be "first come first served" with this particular procedure.
I would go on a list for cancellations , thank you for mentioning that .. I should hear from my doctor by Thursday hopefully.
I have had nodules for years and they were watched to a point .... but now with growth of them and this new blood supply to suspicious tissue things are far more serious ... I'm just trying not to think about it too much, there is nothing I can do in any case.
Thank you for your information !
