Skin problem and blow outs on bag edge
I am almost 6 months out of surgery. I have a rash around the stomach area where bag adheres to skin. Any suggestions?
Also. My stool seems to collect at the stoma and eventually pushes thru the seal of the bag. Any suggestions? I started using the lubricant and it seems to help. Trying to firm up stool as well. Thank you

I do use oil which helps. NEW PROBLEM! I am about 2 1/2 months out of surgery. #1. How long before my incision sight is less swollen? I feel like I have a small hill to the left of my stomach…Will it ever go away?
#2. Also…my stomach is flush to my skin…Will a stomach ever emerge above the skin? I feel that is part of my pancaking problem.
#3. Has anyone ever had any stool come out of original anal opening? NOT the mucous they tell us about…actual stool. I’ve had some the last 4 days…
Thanks!
I wouldn’t think that you would have much stool passing from the anus after 2 1/2 months since surgery. It may indicate a problem, especially with the recessed, stoma, and hill next to your stoma. I would definitely call your surgeon and make an appointment.
I am 18 months out f surgery and i still have a small hill n left side, however if you have stool cming out of rectum I would definitely call your surgeon
Talked to surgeon office and they r not concerned because I am having stool go into bag. NEW QUESTION. Any recommendations on what to use for odor when I occasionally rinse my bag out ? Does anyone feel that rinsing bag out may be adding to why I leak out of sides of my bag? Also. I use the 8931 bag from Hollister. Any suggestions of bags you use that may be better to reduce leaks???
Taking the bag off might be pulling the stomahesive up just enough to weaken its hold around the stoma, increasing its proclivity for leaking?
I could not deal with emptying the bag and everyone I tried leaked so I had to change the base out almost every day and I just never felt clean. I went to a coloplast mio flex convex closed end pouch which fits well and I simply change the bag out when full and throw it away. It takes me 5 to 7 minutes to change bag and I feel so much cleaner and no odor. I have very bad arthritis in my right hand making it very difficult to empty and clean a bag so the disposal bags work best for me. Every now and then I have problem with leakage when stool pancakes but its usually due to what I eat. I never have a skin problem and I believe its because I wash it with warm water every time I change my bag When I first tried open ended if I would get two or more days out of base plate I itched and my skin was very uncomfortable. Call coloplast and they will send samples of bags you can try. I love my closed end disposal bags and would never go back to one I have to empty or clean At 86 after much trials and error this works for me
Hi…thank you, I will check it out. Also do u find a stool consistency that creates less leakage and pancaking? Like a firmer stool? My problem I think is that my stoma is flush to my belly. It’s been 3 months so not sure if it may change. Thanks. Laurie
I find that to avoid leakage I must keep my stools very loose so they slide into bag, If my stools get firmer they pancake and cause bag to leak or kick it right off. I have to take a stool softner
Can you please tell me what the sticky stuff is that makes adhering the bag better thank you
I couldn’t agree with you more! I switched to closed ended bags and life is so much easier. I use Hollister products and have been very happy with them.
