Can anyone suggest a good book on Diabetes Type 2?

Posted by Miriam, Volunteer Mentor @mir123, 2 days ago

I've had it for decades, and am doing well. But a younger family member now has pre-diabetes and is looking for a book. I can give her my basic info about counting carbs, exercise, and glycemic index but she might like more. She is the fourth generation of women in our family to have blood sugar problems--in all cases began with pregnancy and then continued. Anyone reading something helpful? Thanks in advance!

Hi Miriam @mir123, As someone being labelled pre-diabetic most of my adult life and not believing it until joining Connect and learning more about my own health and the Metabolic Syndrome, I think one of the books I saw but haven't read it completely is one from Dr. Jason Fung - The Diabetes Code: Prevent and Reverse Type 2 Diabetes Naturally - https://www.amazon.com/Diabetes-Code-Prevent-Reverse-Naturally/dp/1771642653. He also has a great TED Talk on Intermittent Fasting which helped me quite a bit - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7nJgHBbEgsE.

Another of my favorites is Dr. Jay Wortman who has some easy to understand videos that you might find helpful.

Check out Mayo Clinic Press. I read a great book called Essentials of Diabetes (I think; it was a while ago now). Everyday I get something from Mayo Clinic Press advertising a book. Today it was a cookbook for Diabetes Type 2; but I deleted it. I still haven’t gotten into the book I chose when all the volunteer mentors got to pick a book as a “thank you” from Mayo around Christmas time.

When I was diagnosed with pre-diabetes a few years ago, I read every book on diabetes that I could find. The book that helped me the most is ‘The Diabetes Code’ by Dr Jason Fung. I feel like it changed my life by helping me to improve my eating habits and lifestyle! I occasionally watch his YouTube videos also.
