My daughter had a Thyroidectomy, more cancer treatment?
My daughter had a thyroidectomy followed by a I-131 treatment. Then a scan after that. The findings were: There is focal uptake in the midline neck and left
paramedian neck. Physiologic uptake in the oropharynx and GI tract. Nothing for metastatic disease in the chest.
Just wondering if anyone has had this type of findings and what happened after?
She’s 36yrs old and has Nail - Patella syndrome and on dialysis.

@biga282, checking in. What was the recommendation of your daughter's cancer team? Will she require further treatment for thyroid cancer? How is she doing?
Hi, I appreciate your concern!!! She had a thyroidectomy and a radioactive iodine treatment. They’re still concerned about some spots in her neck. She has switched from peritoneal dialysis to hemo. Seems to be doing better on hemo dialysis however she’s still vomiting often. Craziness !!
She had a body scan after the radioactive iodine that showed focal uptake in the center where the thyroid was and on the left side (had a right neck dissection during the thyroidectomy). Endocrinologist made the recommendation for waiting 2 years for a transplant. She was told even at condition right now, having transplant, she would still be at a 98% survival rate. So she's looking at getting a second opinion.
@biga282, if you're daughter would like to consider getting a second opinion at Mayo Clinic, here's how to submit a request http://mayocl.in/1mtmR63
Has she also been listed for a kidney transplant?
She won’t be going back to the Mayo Clinic. Thank you so much for the information! She needs to get an all clear diagnosis from the Thyroid cancer before she can get back on the transplant list. I appreciate the help!
She vomits constantly after going on paratineal dialysis about a year ago and a short time after her Thyroidectomy and after her radioactive iodine treatment she switched to hemo. We thought this was the ticket to cure the vomiting but it still persists. She’s down to maybe 115lbs from 135lbs.
@biga282 Dialysis is hard on the body, no matter which modality she does. If she was on peritoneal dialysis and was vomiting, did her PD team have anything to say about that? Perhaps she was reacting to the dextrose solution . But if she is still vomiting even while on hemo [in center?] I would think her team there definitely should be looking into it. Has she tried Zofran to calm the nausea of vomiting? Or compazine to sooth the large digestive muscles that are used in vomiting? I am concerned about the weight loss and the toll that vomiting is doing to her body.
I have been on PD dialysis since Sept 2022, and under cancer treatments for multiple myeloma since Aug 2021. From other transplant patients, they tell me their transplant teams advised they had to be NED [no evidence of disease] for 5 years before being evaluated for transplant. But parameters might have changed. Hoping so, for your daughter!

She has tried Zofran and Compazine both, seem to work sometimes. Her dextrose solution with two different potencies of medication and still no help. Since switching to hemo she’s a little better except for the vomiting. Her nephrologist has recommended her to a gastroenterologist. Her weight loss is very concerning. I have suggested a review of all her medications which I think have something to do with the constant vomiting but that’s my opinion. She will hear from her evaluation very soon to see if she can be placed on the transplant list again. Her first transplant was in 2012 and dialysis (hemo)for a year before the transplant. I don’t remember her going through what she is going through now. Thanks so much for your support!
