Reclast infusion today

Posted by kallettla @kallettla, Apr 4 9:19am

I just wanted to let people know about my recent Reclast infusion. I hydrated for a couple of days before the infusion with water and coconut water for potassium. I take ionic magnesium daily in water and drink it all day. Before my infusion I took ibuprofen and 4 Zyrtec. 2 in the AM, which I normally take and 2 more an hour before the 2 pm infusion. My specialist told me I can take that for my severe allergic reaction to fragrance. Even though the hospital is fragrance free, I always run into fragrance there. This time is was the warm blanket and pillow.

About 5 pm, I started feeling wishy washy like I had to think hard about doing things. For example, using the microwave I turned on the vent while cooking. When I no longer needed the fan, I couldn't find the correct button to shut the vent fan off. It was un-nerving. Eventually, I figured it out. It reminded me of when I had bad Lyme disease. I was extremely hungry, ate my dinner and then ate a whole sleeve of crackers, which I have never done before. I got very tired and went to bed early. I had strange dreams. For example, I dreamt I grew a second spine. When I woke up my body was achy and I felt nauseous. Today, I am able to putter around, but it is a low energy day. If this is as bad as it gets, and is temporary, I would get the infusion again, if it helps retain the bone that I hopefully built with the 12 months of Evenity. If anything changes, or gets worse, I will let you know.

No! I will not have because I have decided against having it done! I’ve started going to physical therapy and started taking 2000 iu of vitamin D. That will be my treatment from here on out. I retired a yea and half ago, went for the Reclast infusion and have felt awful since! 10 months out; last night I moved in my sleep and the pain was so intense it actually woke me right up out of a sound sleep. I feel that this is why I’m always feeling exhausted. I have thought about a cat nap but I need to keep it in control, not it controlling me!

I am just so sorry you have to go through all of this. Please don’t forget K24 along with the vitamin D so it will bind it to the bones. Otherwise it floats around in your bloodstream and can cause plaque to build up, which is what happened to me stuff the doctors don’t tell you!

What is the next medication? The doctor has ordered for you instead of reclast. Thank you.

That's it for now. I had 12 injections of Evenity. This will hopefully hold any gains. I will have a dexa scan in , I think September, to see how it all worked.

She said I may be able to on a drug vacation. Dr McCormick, last time we spoke with a plan, said the same thing. Fingers crossed!

I looked up the infusion that my Endocrinologist has recommended! This is what I found!
What are the side effects of denosumab injections?

severe abdominal pain. painful or swollen gums, loosening of the teeth, numbness or heavy feeling in the jaw, poor healing of the jaw. unusual bleeding or bruising. nausea, vomiting, headache, and decreased alertness after stopping denosumab and for up to 1 year afterwards. And my primary recommended that I do take it, “ but, then again, it’s up to you, it’s your body” , were her words! P.s. I found out that she is a Nurse Practitioner today also, not that this makes a major difference!

Well, that looks awful. I would feel better myself if the person was an experienced endocrinologist. Can you get a second opinion?

I know it isn't about me, but to let you know how I approached my plan. I got an endocrinologist which took me two years to get in, not ideal, but she was local and has great reviews online. I look at the Dr's background and reviews from people who use them. Meanwhile, I contacted Dr Mccormack, who had osteporosis himself. He suggested, the daily injection, is it Forteo?, to build bone, then Reclast. Meanwhile, he told me what supplements to take and I had a GI map done. My insurance paid for it all because I wrote them and asked them to. I was shocked when I got a check!

I got the appointment with the endocrinologist and she didn't think that I should have Forteo, because at that time it had a black box warning for bone cancer if you have had radiation. I had radiation due to breast cancer. I have had cancer 3 times and so I feel prone to it. My oncologist told me to find another drug. Dr McCormack didn't know about the black box warning. The endocrinologist thought Evenity would be best. That comes with a negative cardiovascular warning. My primary care Dr helped me with blood work and a stress test. Everything checked out. My blood work had some strange clotting factor result so I went to a hematologist. He told me it was nothing and it should not have been done because that one test is supposed to be in a series and that one meant nothing. They told me that regarding all the side effects of a medication, if anyone in the study gets any side effect they have to note it as a possible side effect, even though it may not actually be from that drug.

So, long story short, doctors don't know everything. Go to at least another with a good reputation for another opinion. My endocrinologist looks at the studies I have looked at and lets me know her opinion of them.

Best wishes. Osteoporosis sucks.

I had my Reclast Infusion on 4/1/25. I am 8 days out. First two days was headaches with cold sweats and shaking. Fourth day my eye began hurting & got worse if I touched my eyelid. Horrible headaches. Monday called eye doctor and saw Tuesday (4/8). He said I’m fine and to second eyedrops and let him know if light becomes too bright or if I have to wear sunglasses in house. Monday afternoon I started aching in my left back of head, it went into neck area and now neck and shoulder. I feel crummy. I took Prolia for 2 years. Prolia never bothered me when I got shot, but it crippled me in agonizing pain for last two shots about month and half after getting shot. A good three months in bed waking up wondering if I could walk. Frankly, I’m really sick of headaches. I’m peeing all night. Idk I take pain meds for chronic pain and I have to take Tylenol with pain meds. My blood pressure shot up from 120’s/64 to 157/88 and hands swelling. I can’t live with the headaches everyday. It’s unbearable. I refuse to ever take another infusion of any osteoporosis medicine. This stuff is horrendous. I’ll take calcium and vit d - bone strengthening exercises. I’m 73 in 2 weeks and now I’m probably going to miss Easter, my birthday and Mother’s Day. Prolia caused me to miss Christmas and NewYear’s last year. I can’t go anywhere. I have no quality of life. It sucks.

Sorry to hear this, I was on prolia 2 years, my next injection due next and not taking. I would have never taken if I had seen these reviews. Many say here take reclast but reading those reviews I decided not to and take my chances. Starting on Fortibone calcium supplements next week. What were your T scores prior to prior your 1st prolia injection? I am 63 and my mom had osteoporosis but lived to almost 90 with Zero osteoporosis meds.

I had 5 yearly Reclast infusions. Never had a side effect. Phew! My endo told me last year that there are only so many Reclast infusions one can have thus I was taken off Reclast and now I have Prolia shots. After reading the comments here about Prolia ( very negative) and not having any side effects…I recently spoke to my previous endo associated with a top NYC hospital. I moved, hence, the new endo. My old endo stated that there is fantastic research on Prolia to show that it rebuilds bones and I will be on it for the rest of my life. So…I am here to say to all the naysayers….if your doctor recommends Prolia…take it!! I am 75, never had any fractures and looking forward to my next DEXA with the hopes of seeing positive bone health. Good luck to all.

I do hope you have no bad side effects from Prolia like I have had. It certainly is not for everyone.

I’m with you Reclast nearly killed. Not exaggerating
I’m 4 months out and still having effects. Diet and exercise are the key. My mom lived to be 95 and never had any of this crap put in her body. She feel a few times without consequence, until her last fall at 95 and the only reason she didn’t make it is because the orthopedic doctor didn’t set it right come to find out. He didn’t care because she was old and it became infected. I’m not saying these drugs aren’t needed sometimes. But I do think they are pushed for profit and do not tell you all the horrors that can happen

I had my first Reclast Infusion last July after 3 shots of Prolia. No side affects. I feel a lot better than being on Prolia. To be honest, Prolia scared the heck out of me.
