MY husband was dx with GE juncture Ca last May. he had 4 rounds of FLOT chemo then surgery( Ivor lewis esophagectomy on 12/31). A few bumps in the road with a small anastomosis leak which had him NPO for 21 days. He had a J tube with feedings. he had a pleural effusion from the leak with a subsequent pigtail chest drainage tube Long story short, he was discharged home with the pigtail Cather, J tube feedings, q6h finger sticks with Insulin coverage. I am a semi retired RN and it was round the clock care (crushing meds via J tube, measuring Pigtail drainage and flushing, tube feedings etc). You are very lucky to have a wife who is an RN because she will be very busy with your post op care! MY husband is now doing much better. he is eating well and becoming more and more active. Good luck with your journey , you are in good hands

You are so right about my situation. I spend 17 hrs/daily in a recliner receiving J-tube nourishment to maintain weight (NPO now for over 2 months) with my wife observing and stepping in when needed, all the while maintaining ordinary household tasks and seeing to the daily care of our home-living adult special needs daughter. At night while I sleep in the recliner hooked up to nutrition bags, she's a few feet away sleeping on a couch ready to assist me on tasks big and small when necessary. And she's not alone--an adult son who regularly works from his home 8 hrs away just returned to his wife and home after spending 2 weeks here both working and assisting in miscellaneous tasks, including my daily transportation for chemo and radiation treatments. Best wishes to you and your husband in his medical journey. Both he and I are blessed.
