ADT and Blood Lipids
Just got my blood test results from my PCP, which do not test for PSA and T - the oncology team handles that.
In early Sept 2024, all test results were in the norms and I had just begun 6 months of Orgovyx the previous month, so for the most part not much effect had been exerted by T deprivation at that point.
Now, about 2 months after stopping Orgovyx, my new results were once again pretty normal. However, my triglycerides jumped from 65 to 112 (almost a double) and my glucose went from 84 to 95.
Nothing has changed in my diet except for the fact that it’s gotten much better since the radiation diet days (ugh!).
Anyway, for all of us on ADT - especially those with pre-existing cardiac issues, vascular surgeries or stents, please be sure to monitor your lipid levels if you are on ADT for an extended period of time.
I have not discussed my results yet with my cardiologist but I am hopeful the lipid profile will improve the longer I am off ADT. Six months didn’t kill me and I was fairly healthy before starting it - (I was on a statin, thank goodness) - but it might have caused some “unfortunate adverse event” had I needed to remain on it for a year or more.
Still very happy with my decision to go on ADT, but it is a powerful drug with many side effects and should be treated accordingly. Best to All,
Phil

On an 18 month firmagon regimen. But feeling heart effects after 4. Contacted madam cardiologist thrice, went to vist GP once to ask for an EKG prescription, mister radiation oncologist referred me back to madam cardiologist, who doesn’t return my calls. Not that I am trying to be cynical or sarcastic, but…
Hans, if madam cardiologist doesn’t seem interested find yourself another one ASAP! You cannot fool around especially if you are “feeling” things.
agreed. The only option, it seems, is to go to emerg, and force them to have a look at it.
Man, that sucks…although perhaps the attending can give the name of a more responsive cardiologist. I assume Madam C. is your regular heart doctor? If so, that sucks twice as much because she KNOWS you’ve had multiple bypass surgery and should give a damn about your ADT situation.
