Anyone else allergic to antibiotics? What to do when you need them?

Is there anyone else that is allergic to just about all antibiotics and what do you do when you need them. I seem to be ok on IV antibiotics but the pill form always gives me hives. I have gotten through five days of cipro before.

Hi,
I'm just like you are. I'm allergic to a whole list of things; medications, food, etc. I never used to be. I think it is part of getting older like you said. I'm 78. I can't even drink coffee now and I drank coffee all my life. Plus anything with preservatives in it makes me feel sick. It's very limiting!

Yes must be we're getting older. I hate it when doctors ask me if I'm allergic to anything. Have a whole list. Thank you for your reply.

Hi,
I'm sorry to hear that you are allergic to antibiotics. That must be so hard to deal with. When my husband had lung cancer I tried to find natural remedies that might help with all of the side effects he had with medications etc. One thing I found in my research was that honey is a natural antibiotic. So he started taking a tablespoon of honey each day and also a tablespoon of molasses each day. The molasses was a home remedy that my mom gave me years ago when I was young. Both seemed to make his symptoms improve and he felt better after he took them.
Another thing that you might do is pray about your situation. After all, God made you and he can heal you. I'll say a prayer for you too.
I wish you the best.

Not sure if honey can cure infections. But I have tried to look up natural antibiotics. Just afraid to try them in case it doesn't work and I get worse. Thank you for your reply and your prayers

I never used to be allergic to any of them. The older I get the more I'm allergic to. I have a whole list of meds, supplements, and foods I'm allergic to. Getting ridiculous.

Me, too!!! 2014 was a turning point for me, from a couple allergies to a long list of allergies (meds, foods, additives, etc). I was 54 years old when all heck broke loose. After years of suffering, an allergist put me on Claritan twice a day plus Pepcid and a digestive enzyme before meals. This has helped a LOT! Plus I now know what I need to avoid. Taking a probiotic every day is also helpful.

Does Claritin help with antibiotic reactions. I have trouble taking probiotics. It aggravates my IBS. Thank you for your reply. Good to know I'm not the only one

Good question! I have not tested the Claritan with antibiotics yet because the only antibiotic I have had in the past couple of years (that I know of) has been the penicillin during the allergy test for that. Not sure if they gave me an antibiotics during my rotator cuff surgery last year. But my reactions to food and additive allergies have been much, much less since I began my little "protocol." My allergist has instructor me to take 2 Claritan right before any surgery due to a reaction I had during eye surgery 4 years ago. Have not had an issue since during surgery.

Noooooooo!!! Not coffee!!! It is one of the only drinks I can still drink! I can't even drink tea anymore. No fruit juices or alcohol (except a limited few). I will be lost if I start to not tolerate coffee. 😟

I have become antibiotic resistant. Im 75, and throughout my life Ive had so many infections and used them all.
Doctors look worried when I get sick now. Its scary.
