Anyone else allergic to antibiotics? What to do when you need them?
Is there anyone else that is allergic to just about all antibiotics and what do you do when you need them. I seem to be ok on IV antibiotics but the pill form always gives me hives. I have gotten through five days of cipro before.

I react to many antibiotics
Always a side effect that keeps me fr functioning and have to take with lots of food which may not be helpful
And if I have to I take pediatric ones in liquid form no more than 2x a day
Have sig problem with predizone when allergies are bad as a itchy throat
Same here but also react to the liquid form. Prednisone gives me migraines.
It got to the point where I was allergic to so many antibiotics that it would be a real problem if I got sick. My doctor and I decided to have me tested to see if I still had a penicillin allergy. I am 64 and had not had penicillin since I was 3 due to a serious reaction. Went to an allergist who performed the test and determined I am no longer allergic to penicillin. I understand that many people get over the alleegy after many years or decades since their initial reaction.
I took have reactions to antibiotics, had to go to urgent care after taking amoxicillin, had severe diarrhea from it, now on predisone and Pedialyte, diarrhea for 5 days now , also on brat diet, will be glad for this to end.
My short answer is that I try hard not to need any antibiotics. I try not to catch upper respiratory infections which lead to bronchitis which leads to pneumonia if no antibiotics. Or get cuts in my skin which lead to skin ulcers and cellulitis. I am truly allergic to penicillins but sensitive to some other antibiotics. Cipro and its relatives (for bronchitis) give me seizures (not an allergic reaction) and Bactrim (for cellulitis) is more than normally toxic to my liver. The liver toxicity is surprisingly common but not a true allergic thing.
I try also but sometimes doesn't work. Thank you for your reply. I thought I was the only one that can't take antibiotics
No, it doesn’t. So far deoxycycline and the Zpak, arithromycin (sp?) are my go to antibiotics, but sooner or later, I probably won’t be able to take them anymore.
I never used to be allergic to any of them. The older I get the more I'm allergic to. I have a whole list of meds, supplements, and foods I'm allergic to. Getting ridiculous.
Hi,
I'm sorry to hear that you are allergic to antibiotics. That must be so hard to deal with. When my husband had lung cancer I tried to find natural remedies that might help with all of the side effects he had with medications etc. One thing I found in my research was that honey is a natural antibiotic. So he started taking a tablespoon of honey each day and also a tablespoon of molasses each day. The molasses was a home remedy that my mom gave me years ago when I was young. Both seemed to make his symptoms improve and he felt better after he took them.
Another thing that you might do is pray about your situation. After all, God made you and he can heal you. I'll say a prayer for you too.
I wish you the best.

Hi,
I'm just like you are. I'm allergic to a whole list of things; medications, food, etc. I never used to be. I think it is part of getting older like you said. I'm 78. I can't even drink coffee now and I drank coffee all my life. Plus anything with preservatives in it makes me feel sick. It's very limiting!
