In my research and speaking with cardiologists, I get the impression that they are not so concerned with the possibility of a soft plaque bursting (thus causing a stroke or worse) especially if it is an inherited condition. If you are over 70, you should have been on statins and blood thinners since childhood. But unfortunately, us Boomers did not have access to that kind of research, and besides other co-morbidities may be of immediate concern. In spite of all the exercise, weight, and sugar maintenance, your organ cells are breaking down, mutating (pre-cancerous genes) etc. It is amazing how efficient our scavenger cells have been all this time attacking viruses and bacteria. In the Roman Empire you would have been lucky to live past 40. Before antibiotics, at least 30% of the population died of simple infections.
