I had pain in my back while receiving chemo. It didn't start until the 6th treatment of 5fu. Which then I found out I was allergic to the chemo. So the one drug instead of it taking 2 hours they spread it out to 4 hours plus gave me allergies medicine so I wouldn't have the side affects from the chemo. Could it be a side affects from the chemo? Did he tell his oncologist what is going on or the chemo nurse? I also had a Stent but never had any problems with it. The Stent was taken out when I had the Whipple procedure done. Good luck to him I hope you find out what is given him the pain .

Thank you for your response. My friend said he gets the 5fu over many hours, through a pump. He did tell his oncologist about this pain, and was told it was a chemo side effect, but had no special measures for it aside from the pain meds cited above. Hopefully the surgeon who placed the stent has some explanation for this pain.
