I, too, use only water to clean my wood floors. It works well with a polishing machine. My cleaning lady and I are too old to get down and scrub anymore. My linoleum bathroom floor is 55 years old and only needs some softscrub around the edges once in awhile. We use a fragrance and dye free floor cleaner on the kitchen tile with the scrubbing pads for the machine. My husband is still farming and tracks mud and manure in on his boots. He's finally learned to take them off before entering the kitchen!

I forgot to mention that we are an outdoor-shoes-free household, a practice common in many parts of the world. Indoor shoes & slippers welcome. My daughter even trained her dog to wait by the door for a "paw check" and wipe if necessary before bouncing into the house. Not only does it help with the "mud and manure" on the floor, but it keeps many pollutants out of the house as well.

And here in semi-arid far South Texas, it keeps the burs and thorns out as well. In our tiny home we provide a chair and rug at the door (which is in the main room) for those who don't wish to remove footwear.
