It takes at least one year to fully recover from TKA and you won’t know how you fared until that year is over. If I were you, I wouldn’t do the other knee unless and until you are sure you got a good result with the first knee. So, I’d postpone your second surgery.
As to your current challenge walking downstairs, I wouldn’t have even tried to do it reciprocally (alternating feet on the stairs) at only nine weeks post-op. I can’t even do it without pain at six months post-op, although I’ve had a particularly bad experience with TKA. So, I wouldn’t worry about the difficulty you’re having at this stage of the game. Just keep up your rehab and hope for the best.
