Mass in upper abdomen - possible liposarcoma? Or lipoma? Or nothing?
I'm not sure if what I'm feeling is cancerous, benign, or just a mass of "stuff." I asked my primary about what I would describe as a tube-like mass (or masses) in my upper abdomen. I say masses because it's not as prominent over my mid-section.
Each appears to be 3-4 inches long and I would guess a diameter of an inch or two. It/they sit about an inch under my rib cage. I suppose if I lost some weight there I might have a better feeling for it' size.
I'm a 57-year-old male, in so-so shape. I'm probably obese by today's tables but I still get out and golf, backpack, and play some team sports when I can but just slower than I used to.
A couple of years ago, my primary said that he saw all sorts of masses in the abdomen when he was in med school and it's probably not something to be alarmed about. I probably should have pushed to rule out some things but I'm also content not spending money on all of the "what-if" scenarios.
I did have a lipoma removed from under my left forearm muscle that was about the size of a softball about 12 years ago and I've wondered if it's just another lipoma but in a different part of my body.
My wife has been encouraging me to push with our primary to get it looked at. I would love to hear suggestions from this group.

Can you ask to have a needle biopsy of them? I had that done by a surgeon on a bump on my side many years ago. I left it alone and now need to have it removed due to pain. I regret not removing mine earlier. I lost weight last year and it’s now more prominent. I’ve seen another general surgeon and he confirmed mine is a lipoma. Still, I won’t be completely comfortable until it’s gone.
