Exactly right! They are however now proving that SSRIS cause cognitive issues

Exactly!
SSRI tapering/discontinuation can be just as horrific and long term cognitive issues have been directly attributed. But benzos get most of the bad press despite the fact they are lifesavers for most who take them.
