Be aware that even titanium plates can be infected. That was my case and they had to be removed. Over a year later, am still dealing with bacteria in bone and facing another crainiotomy to remove bad bone. Not to scare you, but suggesting you ask detailed questions about any options other than plates being put in. There is a newish product (Singapore/Australian joint venture) called Osteopore, which "tapes" the bone together and then dissolves after 18 months, allowing bone to grow. There may still need to be plates involved, I'm not sure, but there are new developments all the time.

Thanks for the information - I had the craniotomy with the titanium plate insertion and it seems to be healing well so far, but I will keep this in mind.
