Who Knew? "Toddler Pillows" for Rehab, Relax & Relief

Posted by jackchap @jackchap, Apr 2 12:32pm

Total knee replacements led to my discovery of "toddler pillows" which have become a post recovery and permanent part of my bedding as I'm now dealing with hip and disk pain and potential surgery.

What are toddler pillows? They're half the size of regular bed pillows...about 12X18 inches. They're not "decorative," just mini-pillows and there are lots of pillow covers in standard fabric and colors for them.

Why are they good? I found they are the perfect size for keeping my knees separated when sleeping on my side. Once the replacements had been made, the metal in the knees was apparent and uncomfortable when they came together.

As for back pain, they're the right size and heft for stuffing here and there to provide support. And, they're not so big that they get in the way.

Very clever!

Have you found other things that help you?

I have adapted a lot of stuff to assist me since I had a stroke. Pool noodles, back scratchers, hockey pucks, and even poker chips have come in handy.

The "Show and Tell" episode of my YouTube channel discusses some of this, if you're interested.

I got a new foam mattress topper and I cut up the old one into shapes that suit me and my aching body. It sounds silly but the thing that helps me the most is my pillow pants! I tied the feet of an old pair of sweatpants, stuffed the pants with pieces of foam and then tied the waist shut. I guess it functions sort of like a pregnancy pillow but this was free. I've got all kinds of odd-shaped pillows now but they all serve a purpose.

Those shiny Hammer-pants sure would make my bed look fancy! I remember him well.
