April 2nd of last year I took a step in my kitchen and my femur totally broke. I was shocked because I have never had a problem with my bones inspite of the many times my knee has buckled on me. I did have TKR in February of 2023 on the same leg. I will say the surgery for my femur went very well. I recovered very well the bone growth has been excellent and I did have a rod placed in my femur but it has not given me any trouble. I was diagnosed with osteopenia in 2017 and chose to deal with it using supplements: vitamin d, calcium lactate, vitamin c, magnesium, and vitamin ADK. My last Dex test showed improvement and my doctor told me to keep doing what I was doing. I hope this helps and good luck.

@skshapiro
Just found this community. I broke my femur in Jan, had titanium rod surgery and have knee locking. I think I injured my knee ( or more correctly RE injured it from Dec 22) when I fell.
I can't get past 85 ROM no matter how hard I try and now the knee has been acting as if it has ACL and/or meniscus damage. I know of this due to my left knee in 94.

In 2014, 1st DXA scan showed bones of a 70 year old, I was 57 at the time. 2016-19 on Alendronate (Fosomax), then had to stop due to gastric issues. Research shows that bisphosphonates stay in the body for 10 years AFTER stopping meds, continuing to take good bone cells from the femurs to nourish the pelvic and hip region. My femur snapped like a dried up branch. Heard it, felt it.
I've been good about taking calcium, vitD, K2, magnesium, etc, doing all the things I should, eating healthy, exercising yet none of it helped my bones.
Heavy soreness around the screw regions of the rod, heavy scar tissue around the knee. Been working it as best I can, Now that swelling is going down, the knee has become more problematic and causing me to not walk normal in fear of a fall. I start outpatient PT next week. I think I will need knee surgery. Any thoughts or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
