How to find relief for strong body pain in first week of second chemo

Posted by charlotte12 @charlotte12, Jun 16, 2024

This is my 3rd day of strong pain in knees, wrist, legs, ankles after
my second chemo. I have taken Advil, 200mg, and ibuprofen 325 mg,
every 6 hrs, does not help. What works for you?

Thank you all for posting about this. I wasn't prepared for that joint and muscle pain to interfere with sleep as it did. I have had only 1 cycle so far. Will this pattern repeat after each one? I'm scheduled for 6...21 days apart.

I also had pretty intense joint pain after chemo treatments which I wasn't expecting at all. After the first treatment I was given low dose steroids to take for 4-5 days after each treatment and it helped somewhat. I also used NSAID's and Tylenol with the steroids. I hope you get some relief!!

@jeanknoll986 Treatment that interferes with sleep is the worst. Sleep is one of the few activities I'd say is at the top of my list of favorite activities. I know that sounds rather odd but I love restful sleep when it comes.

@charlotte12 and @mommacandy both provided advice and support. When do you next meet with your oncologist so you can discuss the join and muscle pain you experienced?

Tylenol Ex strength didn't touch it and it was a rough night. I just kept trying to move, but it felt like my knees were going to give out. Don't look forward to that another 5 times. I will ask about something better. Thank you!

@jeanknoll986 That's good that you will talk with your oncologist before your next treatment. May I recommend that you write down your symptoms you are currently experiencing with the date? And then add any other symptoms you experience before your phone conversation with your oncologist. That way you will have all the information in front of you for the conversation.

Thank you. I'm already doing that, but a good reminder to note them immediately.

I'm not on Keyruda, however I experienced symptoms like you describe in addition to a weird sensation of muscle twitches traveling up and down and around in my legs. I took gabapentin which helped with that, but it didn't help with bone pain and muscle stiffness or peripheral neuropathy. For these symptoms I took ibuprofen, which helped somewhat. I also tried to move my body, walking especially, helped. When the pan eased I I resumed Jazzercize-- the dancing really helped.
The pain does ease after after the first week after treatment; and while the neuropathy lessens it doesn't completely disappear.
Try to keep moving and remaining positive.

Thank you so much. I agree moving is good. I won't quite get to jazzercise, but I can walk and stretch!
