thoughtprocess @thoughtprocess and @susies215. On March 19th I had chest CT Scan. They found 1cm spiculated node and 3 other nodes in upper right lobe. Two were 4mm and one was 5mm. They weren't there 7 months ago during a previous CT of my lungs. two more 4mm nodes in left upper lobe. My Oncologist said he does not believe the 1cm node is a node at all. He thinks I have an infection. the node sits right behind or on top of blood vessels. He stated a needle biopsy would be too risky since it's still too small for a biopsy. He called the pathologist while I was in his office and presented his opinion. At the end of the call, he told me the pathologist was still convinced it was a spiculated node, but he stands firm it's not. He started me on AMOX/CLAV 875mg and 125mg. He saw me through two previous cancers, so I trust him. He asked me to give the antibiotics a chance. I have had a very productive cough for a couple of weeks. He said if I didn't have a cough, he'd be more concerned. He's ordered another CT in 6 weeks. I asked him point blank, " If he's wrong, will waiting 6 weeks affect my mortality and he said No, it wouldn't." If he's right, however, he believes he's saving me from a very risky biopsy. Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks.

Sounds like you are in a bit of a dilemma. I can just tell you that I was told a spiculated nodule almost always cancer. My Oncologist showed me on my scan and I could see what they mean by spiculated. It looked like little tentacles coming off it. As far as waiting six weeks it probably won’t change anything. It concerns me that he said he would be more worried if you didn’t have a cough. Lung cancer can cause a cough just like an infection can. How long are you on antibiotics for? Usually not for more than a week or two so not sure why you can’t get another CT before 6 weeks. I do understand the location of nodule may make it risky to biopsy if not necessary. It is probably ok to see if infection but just kinda prepare yourself if it is spiculated. Guess I’m just a little guarded cause every time they found something new on me they would say it was probably just inflammation or something and every single time every new thing they have found turned out to be more cancer. Will pray you get good news. I do have medical knowledge as a former Critical Care Nurse for 27 years. Never worked in oncology but know enough to be more scared than most when I see my reports.
