Hello @tspitzley63. My husband was diagnosed with stones in his kidney and neobladder 2 years ago. A nephrostomy was done to ensure the flow of urine as these stones could block a ureter. He had that for almost 2 weeks until the neobladder was cleared of stones.
If you have no stones in the kidney then they must be forming when urine sits in the bladder. Draining urine via nephrostomy would decrease your painful passage of stones and decrease your chance of actual blockage of your urethra from stones. It also allows the doctor access to the kidney to remove any potential stones that could form. Why is bladder removal denied? Have you had a second opinion?

Thank you for sharing. My bladder is full of cancer. I was denied due to the fact that the cancer is also in the pelvis area. So they wouldn't be able to get clear margins. And I have a tumor in my lung that has collapsed my lung and been debunking 4 times in a year. I was looking at going to Mayo for a second opinion, but I'm on Medicare and it will only cover 80% according to Mayo. The estimated cost of going there and the travel expenses are more than I can afford. I wish I could find someone willing to remove the bladder and provide a ureostomy at this point but the two urologist I've seen think it's to high a risk I guess. The stones are only in the bladder and they believe they are dead calcified tumor. So I wasn't sure the nephrostomy would stop them from passing but only divert the urine and make it more painful. I'm still looking for answers. I wish someone would send the fragments for biopsy/pathology. Some of the fragments are very large. Photo attached.
