Brand new to this forum - I did a lot of research when I was diagnosed (in April it will be 2 years ago), but never found this - wish I had! I was diagnosed almost 2 years ago. After a few months on Fosamax (couldn't tolerate due to reflux & I didn't like the possible jaw side effects - I'd just had a dental implant) I've been on Tymlos for almost 18 months. I had a DEXA at the 6 month mark & it had helped my spine a good bit (-3.2 to -2.8) although hips hadn't changed. My doctor had told me I could take it 18 months, but now I'm seeing 2 years, so maybe can push back the what to do next (which is how I found this forum!) for a little while longer. I'm 60, in good shape and eat healthy generally. I do pilates once/week and strength training 2x/week. I need to walk more, but have knee issues.

Going to my gyn next week and plan to ask her about HRT. I fall into the age group of never took it because it was "bad" for you & now studies have been updated and it is good to take. Also had ablation surgery at 42 and never had another period, and minimal menopause symptoms, so never had issues I needed to treat. I will be 61 this year and not sure what to do after the Tymlos. I hate taking medications, but know that I will have to continue if I want to maintain my active lifestyle.

Anyone else 60-ish and post Tymlos? What are you taking? Seeing my rheumatologist at the end of April and will need to make a decision. She discussed lots of options at my last appointment, but now I'm close to having to make the call on what to take. Thanks!

Hi @seh801 , i read your post and see that you are debating what to do next. There are a few threads on Mayo Connect discussing HRT use:
https://connect.mayoclinic.org/discussion/transdermal-hrt/
https://connect.mayoclinic.org/discussion/hrt-safety/
https://connect.mayoclinic.org/discussion/effects-of-hrt-alone-in-combination-or-sequencing/
I had Forteo treatment then transitioned to HRT afterwards - see the last thread link. The decision to go with HRT wasn't an easy one. It took a good 4-6mo to get fully evaluated including second opinions. So far HRT (6mo) has worked fine for me. We have one member on this forum (@teb) who has been using HRT for 6-7 years post Forteo treatment which maintained her bmd gains from Forteo!

Keep us posted regarding your decision and best wishes to you.
