Greetings Colleen,
I have been advised by my endocrinologist to begin taking FOSAMAX. Has any experienced side effects from this drug and is there a recommended alternative?
Sincerely,
Esther

@oliversolis1212 Most drugs taken during menopause can only be used for 2-3 years. Your doctor started you on the correct one. I had no problems as long as I followed the instructions closely. Then you’ll start on some of the intravenous drugs, which are given once a year. Your endocrinologist will be following your progress when you have DEXA scans. The whole program is closely monitored.
I do not know of any recommended alternatives.

It seems that fosomax was often used as a first Osteoporosis drug. I understand that one of the drugs called bone builders...tymlos, forteo and Evenity are often prescribed first. You may want to ask your endocrinologist for her/his rationale for starting you on a bisphosphonate first.
